An apartment in the Swiss Alps, at an altitude of over 1000 meters, needs to fulfill specific requirements. The owner wanted a home that can be split into four separate apartments if needed and desired.
The space of roughly 700 square meters can be used as one big loft or can be separated into four units by moving moveable walls and partitions and offers sleeping space for up to 24 people – 20 adults and four children.
Bernd Gruber designed many of the elements and pieces of furniture specifically for this home. A modular shelf system for example was designed in a way that offers a scrap wood appearance as well as oak or stone, depending on its area of use.
Special attention was paid to the professional kitchen to ensure it meets the requirements of a star cook. All surfaces are a mixture of fine and rough materials. A special composition of old spruce wood combined with smooth surfaces, simple oak and Italian natural stone in different surface finishes was applied in a fascinating way. The entire floor of the apartment is made of a solid, calm concrete using a special trowelling technique.
